'Local' week

Local Foods Week -- seven days of events presented by Local Matters, a nonprofit organization seeking to make local, healthful and sustainable food available to everyone -- will begin Saturday. A few of the happenings planned:

Saturday: The Harvest Festival will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the North Market, 59 Spruce St.; and Ohio Market Days, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Hills Market, 7860 Olentangy River Rd. Both will feature locally grown and produced foods.

Next Wednesday: A cooking class with Michael Jones, of Local Matters and the Greener Grocer, will be offered in the Dispatch Kitchen at the North Market.

Chili contest

The Granville Inn will host a chili cook-off -- starting at 7:45 a.m. Saturday at 314 E. Broadway -- to raise money for the Granville Teen Center. The entry fee is $50, with a first-place prize of $100. For a $5 donation, guests can taste the various chilis beginning at 10 a.m. For more information, call 740-973- 0025.

Cooking demos

Dispatch Food Editor Robin Davis will join Dino Tripodis of WSNY (94.7 FM) at the Taste of Home Cooking School, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Aladdin Shrine Complex, 3850 Stelzer Rd., near Easton Town Center. The event will feature cooking demonstrations by Taste of Home magazine. Tickets cost $13. Visit www. sunny95.com.
